The short answer: composite decking in Pennsylvania typically runs $60 to $100 per square foot installed, with most homeowners in our area investing between $15,000 and $35,000 for a complete deck. Below, we break it all down, brand by brand and scenario by scenario, so you can walk into a quote knowing what to expect.
Does This Sound Like Your Situation?
Most homeowners we talk to in Bucks and Montgomery County fall into one of two situations:
| The “Forever House” Replacement You’re 30–40, bought your home in the last few years, and inherited an aging wood deck that needs to go. You want something that won’t need attention for decades. Composite is almost certainly the right call. | The Original Builder You’re 50–70, may have built your own deck 20+ years ago, and want to understand whether re-decking is viable or if a full replacement makes more sense, and what that price difference looks like. |
Composite Deck Cost Per Square Foot in PA
Here’s a realistic look across the full range of composite decking options, installed in Pennsylvania:
TABLE 1 COMPOSITE DECK COST PER SQUARE FOOT, INSTALLED
| Tier | Material/SF | Labor/SF | Total Installed/SF | 300 SF Estimate | Level |
| Entry-Level Composite | $7–$12 | $25–$35 | $32–$47 | $9,600–$14,100 | Budget |
| Mid-Range Composite | $12–$22 | $30–$40 | $42–$62 | $12,600–$18,600 | Mid |
| Premium Composite (Trex, TimberTech) | $20–$38 | $35–$50 | $55–$88 | $16,500–$26,400 | Premium |
| Ultra-Premium Capped PVC (AZEK, TimberTech Platinum) | $30–$50 | $40–$55 | $70–$105 | $21,000–$31,500 | Luxury |
Estimates include permitting, footings, framing, decking surface, and standard railing. Stairs, lighting, multi-level framing, and demolition are additional.
| PRO TIP Don’t compare material prices in isolation. A premium capped composite board may cost $10–$15 more per square foot than an entry-level option, but it won’t need sealing or staining, resists scratching and fading far better, and often carries a 25–30 year warranty. Over the life of the deck, that math frequently favors the premium product. |
How Much Does Trex Decking Cost?
Trex decking, for materials only, costs $8 to $25 per square foot, depending on the collection. Installed, most Trex deck projects in our region run $50 to $82 per square foot. Here’s how their four main lines break down:
| Trex Select®$8–$12 / sq ft material
Entry-level. Solid moisture resistance, limited colors. Best for straightforward builds where budget is the primary driver. |
Trex Enhance®$10–$16 / sq ft material
Popular mid-range line with Naturals and Basics sub-collections. Good color variety and performance for the price. |
| Trex Transcend®$15–$22 / sq ft material
Trex’s flagship line. Superior scratch and fade resistance, widest color and texture range. 25-year limited warranty. |
Trex Transcend Lineage™$18–$25 / sq ft material
Trex’s newest premium offering. Most realistic wood grain texture, top-tier protection. Ideal for high-visibility builds. |
For a 300 sq ft deck in Bucks or Montgomery County, expect $15,000 to $25,000 for a fully installed deck, depending on the collection. Railing adds significantly to Trex’s own systems, running $100–$250 per linear foot installed.
| PRO TIP As a TrexPro Platinum contractor, Precision Decks can register your finished deck for Trex’s highest available warranty tier. Most general contractors, even experienced ones, cannot offer this level of coverage because they don’t hold Platinum status. |
Cost of TimberTech Decking
The cost of TimberTech decking materials runs from about $10 to $32 per square foot, with installed costs generally between $55 and $90 per square foot in our region. TimberTech offers both wood-composite hybrid boards and fully cellular PVC boards, meaningfully different products at different price points:
TABLE 2 TIMBERTECH COLLECTIONS & COST RANGES
| Collection | Material Type | Material/SF | Installed/SF | Best For |
| Pro Legacy® | Capped Composite | $10–$14 | $45–$60 | Budget-friendly composite with solid core warranty |
| Harvest Collection® | Capped Composite | $13–$18 | $52–$68 | Natural wood appearance at a mid-range price point |
| Prime+® | Capped Composite | $16–$22 | $58–$76 | Enhanced grain realism, broader color palette |
| AZEK® / Vintage® | 100% Cellular PVC | $24–$38 | $68–$95 | Maximum moisture performance; lifetime limited warranty |
Holding TimberTech Pro Platinum status as Precision Decks unlocks lifetime limited warranty coverage on select collections. That’s coverage most contractors’ customers never qualify for.
Cost of AZEK Decking
AZEK is a fully cellular PVC product; it contains zero wood fiber. AZEK material costs run roughly $24 to $42 per square foot for boards alone, with installed AZEK decks in Pennsylvania typically ranging from $70 to $105 per square foot.
For homeowners planning to stay in their property long-term or with decks in shade-heavy, high-moisture, or poolside environments, AZEK’s lifetime limited warranty and near-zero maintenance requirements often make the premium worthwhile.
How Much Does Deckorators Decking Cost?
Deckorators is consistently underrated because it lacks the name recognition of Trex or TimberTech. Materials run from $12 to $28 per square foot, with installed costs generally between $48 and $78 per square foot.
The Voyage and Terrain collections are standouts, with deep-grain embossing, strong UV resistance, and excellent fade performance. As a Deckorators Certified Elite contractor, we consider it one of the best value propositions at the mid-to-premium tier.
How Much Does MoistureShield Decking Cost?
MoistureShield is built around one differentiator: it can be installed in, on, or over water. Materials run from $10 to $22 per square foot, with installed costs around $45 to $72 per square foot.
| PRO TIP If your deck site has standing water, significant shade, or will involve ground-contact framing, MoistureShield should be given serious consideration. It’s the only composite product with a warranty that covers submerged applications. |

Composite vs. Wood Deck Cost: What’s the Real Difference?
We don’t build wood decks, but you deserve an honest comparison. Pressure-treated lumber typically runs $25 to $45 per square foot installed in Pennsylvania. Cedar runs $35 to $55 per square foot. On day one, wood is cheaper. Here’s where the comparison gets more complicated:
TABLE 4 COMPOSITE VS. WOOD: TRUE 25-YEAR COST COMPARISON (300 SQ FT DECK)
| Cost Factor | Pressure-Treated Wood | Mid-Range Composite | Premium Composite |
| Initial installed cost | $7,500–$13,500 | $12,600–$18,600 | $16,500–$26,400 |
| Annual maintenance | Stain/seal every 2–3 yrs: ~$600–$1,200/yr avg | Occasional cleaning: ~$50–$100/yr | Occasional cleaning: ~$50–$100/yr |
| Board replacement over 25 yrs | Likely 1–2 partial replacements: $2,000–$6,000 | Minimal; warranty-covered defects | Minimal; warranty-covered defects |
| Estimated 25-year total | $22,500–$43,500 | $13,850–$21,100 | $17,750–$29,900 |
Composite Deck Replacement Cost vs. Re-Decking
Replacing an existing deck is one of the most common projects we handle, making up roughly half of our work. The cost of replacing the composite deck depends on a key question: Is the existing frame structurally sound?
- Full replacement, tearing out the old structure and building new, typically adds $3 to $8 per square foot in demolition and disposal costs. On a 300 sq ft deck, that’s an additional $900 to $2,400.
- Re-decking, replacing only the surface boards while keeping a sound frame, runs $28 to $55 per square foot installed, roughly half the cost of a full rebuild. We always assess the frame honestly during our estimate.
What Drives Your Total Cost Up or Down
- Brand & collection selected the highest single impact on the final price
- Deck size cost per square foot generally decreases for larger decks
- Railing type aluminum, cable, glass, and composite systems vary significantly in cost ($100–$250+/linear ft)
- Multi-level design each additional level adds framing complexity and labor
- Full demo vs. re-deck framing reuse can cut project cost by 30–50%
- Stairs, lighting, and built-ins each add to the total; get line-item quotes
- Permitting $500–$2,000, depending on municipality and project scope
The Honest Drawbacks of Composite Decking
Most composite decking content reads like a brochure. We’d rather you hear the trade-offs from us than discover them after the build.
| KNOW BEFORE YOU BUY |
- Higher upfront cost than wood. There’s no way around it composite costs more on day one than pressure-treated lumber. The argument for composite is long-term value, not initial price.
- Heat retention in direct sun. Composite boards, especially darker colors, absorb more heat than wood. On a 90°F summer afternoon in Bucks County, a dark composite deck can get uncomfortably hot underfoot. Lighter colors and brands with heat-dissipating cap layers (AZEK, Trex Transcend) perform better here.
- Not all composite is equal. Entry-level composites with an uncapped core can stain, fade, and scratch more than their premium counterparts. The word composite doesn’t guarantee quality; the cap layer and core composition matter enormously.
- Scratch visibility varies by color. Lighter, solid-tone boards tend to show surface scratches more obviously than variegated wood-grain finishes. If you have dogs or expect heavy furniture to be moved, consider this when selecting a color.
- It doesn’t look exactly like wood, and that’s a trade-off. Modern composite has come a long way, but if a truly organic wood aesthetic is what you want, composite may disappoint. Cedar, well-stained and well-maintained, has a quality composite that can’t be fully replicated.
Pennsylvania-Specific Cost Factors
Generic national cost guides won’t account for local conditions, and in our area, a few factors genuinely affect what you’ll pay and what product makes sense.
| Freeze-Thaw Cycles (November – March) Pennsylvania code requires footings to extend below the frost line, typically 36 to 42 inches in Bucks and Montgomery County. That’s deeper than most warmer-climate builds, which adds concrete and labor costs.
It also raises the stakes on material choice: boards that absorb water are more vulnerable to damage from repeated freeze-thaw expansion, making moisture resistance worth paying for here. |
| Permitting Costs: $500–$2,000 Most deck projects in our service area require a municipal building permit. Costs vary by township and project scope, but the realistic range is $500 to $2,000 across Bucks and Montgomery Counties. We coordinate permitting on every build; it’s part of our process from day one, not something handed off to the homeowner. |
| Shade & Moisture Microenvironments The mature tree canopy in our region is one of its best qualities, but heavily shaded decks face more moisture and mildew pressure than decks in open sun. If your yard is significantly wooded, a fully capped composite or PVC product like AZEK or MoistureShield is a more durable long-term choice than an uncapped entry-level board, regardless of the upfront price difference. |
Financing AvailableA composite deck is a significant investment. We’re happy to discuss financing options during your estimate, so upfront cost doesn’t have to be the deciding factor between a deck you settle for and one you’re proud of. |
